Kenny Neal to bring "Baton Rouge-swamp blues" to East Park tonight

NORWICH – "One of the strongest modern proponents of Baton Rouge-swamp blues, Kenny Neal is a second-generation southern Louisiana bluesman who is cognizant of the region's venerable blues tradition and imaginative enough to steer it in fresh directions."

That's how Chenango Blues Association (CBA) describes tonight's featured musician, Kenny Neal, as he's set to perform at the 2017 NBT Bank Free Summer Concert Series presented by CBA in Norwich's East Park at 7 p.m.

Performing since the ripe age of 13 in the band of his father's, Raful Neal, Kenny Neal was just 17 when he landed a job playing bass for Buddy Guy.

Fast-forward 40 years and Neal has made a name of his own, accruing five Grammy-nominations and earning an induction into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2011.

"You can bet on seeing Kenny Neal and his band of brothers – Darnell Neal on bass and Fred Neal on keys – back on the road and better than ever in 2017," said CBA. "They are joined by longtime drummer and friend, Bryan Morris, and new addition to the band, Alphonso “AG” Guillory, on horns."

Furthermore, CBA deems Kenny Neal "a true living blues legend...the real deal, and more poised than ever to deliver the blues like no one else can."

CBA thanks corporate sponsor NBT Bank and grants from the Greater Norwich Foundation and the R.C. Smith Foundation for making the 2017 NBT Bank Free Summer Concert Series possible.
